Cheesy Broccoli Pasta Bake

Whip up this cheap, simple and satisfying meal in just 30 minutes

Method

Based on 4 servings, adjust as needed.

Step 1

Cook the pasta, adding the broccoli for the final 4-5 mins and cooking until tender. Reserve a mug of pasta water before draining well, then heat the grill.

Step 2

Heat the butter in a saucepan and stir in the flour. Cook for 1 min, then gradually add the milk, stirring well between each addition. Bring to the boil, stirring, then simmer for 2 mins, before stirring in the mustard, half the cheese and seasoning generously with salt and pepper. 💡Add a pinch of nutmeg or cayenne pepper here if you'd like to give the sauce an extra boost of flavour.

Step 3

Mix the pasta and broccoli into the sauce, stirring in a splash of pasta water to loosen the sauce and spoon into an ovenproof dish. Scatter over the remaining cheese and place under a hot grill for 3-4 mins until golden and bubbling.

  • 300ml Milk 1x Sainsbury's British Semi Skimmed Milk 1 Pint
  • 280g Penne 1x Sainsbury's Penne Rigate Pasta 500g
  • 1 tbsp Wholegrain Mustard 1x Sainsbury's Wholegrain Mustard 180g
  • 140g Mature Cheddar, grated 1x Sainsbury's British Mature Grated Cheddar Cheese 250g
  • 25g Plain Flour 1x Sainsbury's Plain Flour 500g
  • 280g Broccoli, cut into florets 1x Sainsbury's Broccoli Loose
  • Maldon salt, to taste 1x Maldon Sea Salt Flakes 250g
