Nutella Christmas Tree

This sharing show-stopper is destined to become a firm part of your family tradition. We have used Nutella in this recipe but it works equally well with date paste, jam, or even pesto and parmesan for a savoury version. The kids will have a great time getting involved in making this, and will love eating it even more.

Method

Based on 4 servings, adjust as needed.

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 220C/200C fan and line a large baking tray with a sheet of greaseproof paper.

Step 2

Ensure your 2 sheets of puff pastry are very cold. Unroll them, leaving them on their paper (to prevent sticking) and cut out a large, triangular Christmas tree with a narrow base. We find it easiest to use a long ruler to do this. Once you have cut out your first tree, use this as a template to cut out an identical second tree, using the other roll of puff pastry.

Step 3

Place one of the trees onto your lined baking tray and generously spread with 4 tbsp Nutella all the way to the edges.

Step 4

Place the second tree on top. Take a knife and cut slits along either side of the tree exactly 1 inch apart with a gap down the middle that is the same width as the base of your Christmas tree.

Step 5

Twist each end of the cut strips twice, pressing the ends into the baking parchment or greaseproof paper as you go. Cut out a star using the leftover puff pastry and pop it in top of the tree.

Step 6

Brush the whole tree with 1 beaten egg and place the tray into the hot oven to cook for 25-30 minutes until golden. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving with extra Nutella to dip the branches in.

  • 2 Rolled Puff Pastry, defrosted if needed 2x Sainsbury's Sheet Puff Pastry x1 320g
